jonathon smith book without words

A book without words, which represents Gandhi.

The book has been constructed in such a way that it cannot be closed; this
has been achieved by creating an inverted or concave spine. This was to
symbolize the civil disobedience and non-violent protest exorcised by
Gandhi and his followers.

The paper stock used in the book is made from 100% recycled fibers and has
been sewn into the spine of the book rather than glued to symbolize
Gandhi’s efforts to encourage the people of India to spin their own yarns
and boycott British imported fabrics. The shape of the book is also
reminiscent of the traditional spinning wheels used by Gandhi and the
people of India at the time.
